April 6, 1986

The fourth annual Southern Sports and Outdoor Show was held on April 4-6th at the NC State Fairgrounds. Featuring a wide array of recreational activities and vendors, the event was designed to showcase the best of the outdoors. Admission was $4 for adults and $2 for children under 18. 

Besides the skateboarding competition on Saturday and Sunday, there were many other events throughout the three-day show: 

  • The NC Teenage, Mr. And Miss Eastern Seaboard Body Building contests, were held Saturday in Dorton Arena with over 100 competitors in attendance, with Lee Haney, Mr. Olympia 1985, making a special appearance. 

  • All Terrain Vehicle Association Gran National races were held Saturday and Sunday in the grandstand area with more than 300 riders participating in three-wheeler races. 

  • The Domino’s Pizza 5k Road Race was held on Sunday at 2pm, directed by the NC Road Runners Club.
